The magic with Pivot Tables is it is very easy to expand rows to show additional details<\/strong> for your analysis, then to quickly collapse and hide that additional data<\/strong>. It conveniently has expand and collapse buttons<\/strong> for easily viewing and hiding additional data.<\/p>\n

I will show you quickly how to use that for your Pivot Table<\/a> rows and columns.<\/p>\n

Here is our Pivot Table.<\/p>\n

STEP 1:<\/strong><\/span> You can quickly click on the – button<\/strong> to collapse the Product Field, or the + button<\/strong> to expand the Product Field. Give it a try!<\/p>\n

\"Expand<\/p>\n

You can see the ICE CUBES is now collapsed, while BOTTLES has expanded.<\/p>\n

\"Expand<\/p>\n

STEP 2:<\/strong><\/span> If you want this change to happen for all of the Products, right-click<\/strong> on a Product Field (Bottles) and select Expand\/Collapse > Expand Entire Field<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

You can select the\u00a0Collapse Entire Field\u00a0<\/strong>option instead if you want to collapse all of the Product Fields.<\/p>\n

All of the Products are now expanded!<\/p>\n

STEP 3:<\/strong><\/span> What if we want to expand the Salesperson field? Right-click<\/strong> on any Salesperson and select Expand\/Collapse > Expand Entire Field<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

STEP 4:<\/strong><\/span> You will get a selection to add that detail under the Salesperson field. Select\u00a0SALES QTR<\/strong> and click\u00a0OK<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"Expand<\/p>\n

STEP 5:<\/strong><\/span> Now you have an additional level of detail (Sales Quarter) under Salesperson for your analysis!<\/p>\n

You have the same functionality for columns as well, drag the\u00a0SALES QTR<\/strong> field from\u00a0Rows\u00a0<\/strong>to\u00a0Columns<\/strong><\/p>\n

STEP 6:<\/strong><\/span> Now our column of Sales Year now has the additional detail of\u00a0Sales Quarters<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

You can quickly click on the – button<\/strong> to collapse the Sales Year Field, or the + button<\/strong> to expand the Sales Year Field.<\/p>\n

You can now see we have collapsed the\u00a02012\u00a0<\/strong>column while expanding the 2013<\/strong> column using expand and collapse buttons.<\/p>\n
