When we work with Pivot Table<\/a> Fields, the names get generated automatically<\/strong>. Either they come from the main data source<\/strong>, or Excel generates this for us<\/strong>. But what if you have a better name in mind?<\/p>\n

I will show you how to set up field name formatting in Excel Pivot Tables<\/a>!<\/p>\n

Here is our Pivot Table. We want to change the Sum of SALES\u00a0<\/strong>to\u00a0Total Sales\u00a0<\/strong>for better readability.<\/p>\n

STEP 1:<\/strong><\/span> Click on the arrow beside\u00a0Sum of SALES <\/strong>and select\u00a0Value Field Settings<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"Field<\/p>\n

STEP 2:<\/strong><\/span> Type\u00a0Total Sales\u00a0<\/strong>for the\u00a0Custom Name<\/strong> and click\u00a0OK<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"Field<\/p>\n

Now you have Total Sales<\/strong> as your Field Name<\/strong>!<\/p>\n

STEP 3:<\/strong><\/span> There is another way to do this. Now we want to change\u00a0SALES YEAR <\/strong>to\u00a0Financial Year<\/strong><\/p>\n

Select any SALES YEAR<\/strong> label in your Pivot Table. Go to\u00a0PivotTable Analyze > Active Field > Active Field<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

Type in\u00a0Financial Year\u00a0<\/strong>as the new name:<\/p>\n

And you can see your new field name take effect!<\/p>\n
