Let’s learn how to correct a ##### error!<\/h3>\n

Problem:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

When you are operating in an Excel workbook, you might encounter a problem where the cells might be filled with #<\/strong> marks instead of the actual characters<\/strong> that must have been entered.<\/p>\n

\"How<\/a><\/p>\n

This is due to the fact that the column width, in which the cell containing the # marks is, might not be enough <\/strong>to show all the characters.<\/p>\n

As the entire contents of the cell cannot be shown<\/strong> in that width, Excel shows it as a series of hash mark<\/strong>s in that cell.<\/p>\n

Solution:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

To rectify this, all you have to do is increase the width of the column<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

As you can see in cell C7, there is definitely some value entered but the cell width is very less<\/strong>. Hence, Excel cannot show the entire value<\/strong> and instead shows it as a series of # marks.<\/p>\n

Taking your cursor to the divider between two column<\/strong> heads, the cursor will change into a dragger<\/strong>. Dragging the column head divider will change the width<\/strong> of the column.<\/p>\n

Now you can increase the width to fit all the characters<\/strong> of the cell, or to any width that you want.<\/p>\n

Simply double-clicking on the rightmost edge of the column<\/strong> head, that contains the cell filled with # marks, will autofit the column<\/strong> so that it perfectly adjusts and shows all values<\/strong> in cells.<\/p>\n

It will adjust to the length of the longest cell<\/strong> in the column.<\/p>\n

Upon applying the above steps, your values will then be visible as shown.<\/p>\n

Another way to overcome this problem is auto-shrinking text to fit<\/strong> in the column width. To accomplish this, follow the steps mentioned below:<\/p>\n

STEP 1: <\/strong><\/span>Select the column<\/strong> that shows #### error.<\/p>\n

STEP 2: <\/strong><\/span>Click on the Home<\/strong> Tab.<\/p>\n

Upon applying the steps, the size of the text will be reduced to fit in the column width<\/strong> and it will look like this:<\/p>\n

\nA series of # marks are Excel’s way of showing that there is some content that Excel does not have space to display<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

You can display those text by either using the dragger cursor<\/strong> or double-clicking on the rightmost edge<\/strong> of the column or using the shrink to fit<\/strong> option.<\/strong><\/p>\n
