Pivot Tables<\/a><\/strong> in Excel are one of the most powerful features<\/strong> within Microsoft Excel that allows you to analyze more than 1 million rows of data with just a few mouse clicks.<\/p>\n

You can use conditional formatting<\/strong> with Excel Pivot Tables to highlight cell rules<\/a> based on text labels. Let me show you how easy this is with the help of examples.<\/p>\n

Example 1:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

This is our current Pivot Table<\/a> setup. We want to highlight all of the Q1 text<\/strong> in our Row Labels<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

STEP 1:<\/strong><\/span> Highlight all the quarter text by clicking above the cell<\/p>\n

\"Highlight<\/p>\n

STEP 2:<\/strong><\/span> Go to\u00a0Home > Conditional Formatting > Highlight Cells Rules > Text that Contains<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

\"Highlight<\/p>\n

STEP 3:<\/strong><\/span> Type in\u00a0Q1<\/strong> and select\u00a0OK.\u00a0<\/strong>You can select any color that you wish.<\/p>\n

\"Highlight<\/p>\n

The Q1 text is now highlighted! You can do the same for\u00a0Column Labels<\/strong>\u00a0as well<\/p>\n

Example 2:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

In this example, we want to highlight all quarters except Q4<\/strong> in red.<\/p>\n

STEP 1:<\/strong><\/span> Highlight all the quarter text by clicking above the cell<\/p>\n

STEP 2:<\/strong><\/span> Go to\u00a0Home > Conditional Formatting > Highlight Cells Rules > More Rules<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

\"Highlight<\/a><\/p>\n

STEP 3:<\/strong><\/span> In the New Formatting Rule dialog box, select Specific Text<\/strong> from the first dropdown.<\/p>\n

\"Highlight<\/a><\/p>\n

STEP 4:<\/strong><\/span> Select not containing<\/strong> from the second dropdown.<\/p>\n

\"Highlight<\/a><\/p>\n

STEP 5:<\/strong><\/span> Type Q4<\/strong> in the space shown below.<\/p>\n

STEP 6:<\/strong><\/span> Click on the Format…<\/strong> button.<\/p>\n

STEP 7:<\/strong><\/span> In the Format Cell dialog box, select the red<\/strong> color.<\/p>\n

\"Highlight<\/a><\/p>\n

STEP 8:<\/strong><\/span> Click OK<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
