So if they would be searching for a \u2018Nate Harris\u2019 in an employee database, they would not want to search the entire database.<\/p>\n<p>Instead, they would want to search for \u2018Nate Harris\u2019 but only in the \u2018Sales-department\u2019 of the company. It is customary to change to the more flexible combination of functions, \u2018INDEX\u2019 and \u2018MATCH\u2019 and turning the <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.myexcelonline.com\/meo-staging\/blog\/top-excel-formulas-function-examples-to-get-better-at-microsoft-excel\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"formula\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\">formula<\/a> into an array formula. However, this is not as easy and intuitive as using a simple \u2018VLOOKUP\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>In this article, I will guide you to how you can actually <strong>create an Excel VLOOKUP multiple criteria.<\/strong>\u00a0It is an alteration of the typical way of using \u2018VLOOKUP\u2019 and is as<strong> intuitive as it is easy to use<\/strong>. That means that before we can go any further in the lookup, we need to conjure up a helper column that joins the \u2018Table_arrays\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #339966;\">The helper column<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>In this example, and in the sample file, we need to make a separate column that conjoins the data from the \u2018<strong>Employee<\/strong>\u2019 column and the \u2018<strong>Department<\/strong>\u2019 column. The lookup value should be a concatenation of the two criteria you want to include in the VLOOKUP.<\/p>\n<p>Let us put the VLOOKUP formula in F2, the first criteria in G2 and the second criteria in H2.
