Box and Whisker Excel is one<\/strong> of the many new Charts available only in Excel 2016 and was originally invented by John Tukey<\/a> in 1977.<\/p>\n

They show you the distribution\u00a0of a data set, <\/strong>showing the median, quartiles, range, and outliers.<\/p>\n

The X\u00a0<\/strong>in the box represents the Mean<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The Median<\/strong> divides the box into the interquartile range.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0box\u00a0<\/strong>represents 50% of the data set, distributed between\u00a0the 1st\u00a0and 3rd\u00a0quartiles.<\/strong><\/p>\n

For example,\u00a025% of the data lie between the values of\u00a0the 2nd Quartile box and the other 25%\u00a0 lie between the values of\u00a0the 3rd\u00a0Quartile box.<\/em><\/p>\n

The lines extending vertically outside of the box (whiskers<\/strong>) show the outlier range<\/strong> outside of the upper and lower quartiles. So this is the lowest and highest data points within the data set.<\/p>\n
